Introduction to EARDF,

The mission of East African Rural Development Foundation (EARDF), a 501(c)(3) organization, is to help rural East Africans live longer and better lives by increasing their access to clean water.  Specifically, EARDF seeks to provide support that rural villages need to create and maintain wells.  The work began by building a hand-dug well in 2013- 2015. The next phase will be to build a deep, mechanical well in the same village in 2013-2015. A project board of volunteer village elders in EARDF was founded in April 2006. Founded in 2006 by former Somalia residents, the funding is based in Seattle WA, and committed to providing aid that promotes permanent self-sufficiency. The EARDF program's objective is to supply for up to 5,000 people (by funding and assisting with construction of one well).

EARDF was founded in April 2006 by Raghe Ahmed, after a visit to Somalia, where he saw that the violence and drought that drove him from his homeland a few years before had only worsened.  Throughout the remainder of 2006, EARDF’s board of directors developed a plan articulating their goals and objectives, how they will fund their work, and how they will involve others in volunteer and board opportunities.  The board involved its volunteer project managers, based in  Somalia, in the planning process.
